marriage

Marriage.

It started in the kitchen
With a fight about cooking
& became quickly
A black crow ascending-
I couldnt catch the whirl of it
The argument eluded me:
It was a mad hare running
This way & that.

Finally, I say,
"Let's leave this
& go to bed."
& we do
Though you say
When I reach out for you,
"I'd rather be dead."

The morning comes,
We are getting up and getting on
But there is still-
Like air-conditioning
In a next door room-
A low
Discordant
Hum.

( Things change
Days pass
Time, of course, moves on-
There are, after all,
Years ahead;
There will be a better job,
A bigger home
A larger car
&, probably,
Kids to come.)
